Is there a difference between and HDMI cables? Do they just overprice these things...?

Question

Is there a difference between and HDMI cables? Do they just overprice these things...?

Answer

There is no difference in performance at normalshort distances. If you are connecting two devices with a total cable length of m or less almost any HDMI cable will work perfectly.brbrHDMI fails with distance, so for any specific cable design wire size, terminator design, etc as length increases at some point the cable will fail. The higher the data throughput and it increases with signal resolution and audio quality the shorter the failure distance. But, lab test dont always indicate real world performance. Some cables that quotfailquot lab test, will actually work fine due to the quotboosterquot effect of the active electronics built into most modern equipment.brbrSo .... for simple, short connections of p HD sources, an inexpensive cable will probably work perfectly. If you are installing in a wall you need a quotwall ratedquot CL cable. To be safe look for a Category certified HDMI . cable. Monoprice.com sell them for under .brbrThe first link is to a great information source on HDMI. The second is to a report on why buying more expensive cables doesnt usually pay when buying digital AV cables Analog signals are more sensitive to cable quality, so price arguably matters more ... but only to a point.brbrFinally, Ive got about HDMI cables from various sources. Ive never paid more than and ALL work perfectly with my p system.brbrHope that helps.
